Evolution of Mobile Devices and RF Filters: Contributions and Future Requirements

Abstract

This keynote provides an overview of the technological evolution of mobile phones, focusing on the development of RF filter technologies that have significantly contributed to device miniaturization and performance enhancement. It also explores future challenges and requirements for high-frequency components, with particular emphasis on filter technologies central to next-generation communication systems.

Biography of the speaker

Mr. Makoto Kawashima is a Vice President at Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., leading the Corporate Technology Planning & New Business Development Group, the Corporate Technology & Business Development Unit. He is a technology executive with more than three decades with rich experience spanning microwave technologies, antennas, sensors, and functional devices, as well as global field applications and business leadership.

Kawashima graduated from Kanazawa University in 1987 and joined Murata a month later. His early career included an overseas assignment as a Field Application Engineer in the US. He took various senior management positions within Murata, including the General Manager of Microwave Products Department in 2010, Director of the Microwave Technology Group in 2014, Director of the Sensor Products Division in 2017 and Director of the Functional Devices Division In 2020. In July 2023 he was appointed Vice President of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

Across these leading roles, Mr. Kawashima has combined deep technical expertise in microwave and sensor technologies with strategic planning and global business development to drive Murata's product innovation and market growth.
